His fourth CD release on the independent BlahBlahWoofWoof Label, Chuck McCabe’s Sweet Reunion is a collection of observations about family and heritage, with a subtle underlying message that the past has given us things worth keeping. This is an album to be cherished from start to finish.
Sneak previews of Sweet Reunion were available at the North American Folk Alliance Conference in February, 2006, and have since been heard on syndicated radio programs including Roz and Howard Larman’s Folk Scene on KPFK Los Angeles and Rich Warren’s long running Midnight Special on WFMT Chicago.
In addition to McCabe’s bluesy fingerstyle guitar and formidable banjo picking, guest musicians performing on Sweet Reunion include Rob Ickes on Dobro, Norton Bufalo on harmonica and Myron Dove on bass. The album was co-produced by Joe Weed and Chuck McCabe and recorded by Weed at Highland Studios in Los Gatos, Calif. McCabe’s easy vocal style holds the listener’s attention as he tells these stories somewhere between a whisper and a song.
The graphics on this project provide a reminder of why a physical CD is so much better than a collection of disparate downloaded songs. The companion booklet tucked away inside the CD complements the music with visual treatments of McCabe’s poetic lyrics, along with images of the elements central to the album - including a family photograph of four generations of McCabes.
