White Rock Networks, a leading provider of next-generation optical transport systems for metro networks, announced today that a 10 Gb/s VT1.5 groomer option has been added to its VLX2020 Optical Transport System.

The VLX2020 Optical Transport System combines a SONET ADM, a DCS (Digital Cross-Connect System) and an edge Ethernet aggregation platform in a single 2 RU package. It offers a large (160 Gbps) non-blocking broadband (STS-1) matrix plus optional 5 Gbps or 10 Gbps wideband (VT1.5) matrices, together with integrated Ethernet Layer 2 aggregation and support for multiple optical UPSR and BLSR rings.

“As one of the most affordable edge DCS platforms on the market, the VLX2020 is increasingly being deployed for edge DCS applications including the aggregation of cellular wireless traffic or business services at Co-los. By doubling the system’s VT1.5 cross-connecting capability and combining it with integrated transport, it greatly increases the number and size of DCS applications the VLX2020 can manage,” said Paul Forzisi, Vice President of Marketing for White Rock Networks. “This not only allows service providers to leverage a lower-cost, smaller-footprint DCS solution for edge applications, but by employing VT grooming within the VLX2020 at the edge, it makes transport backhaul far more efficient.”

The VLX2020 and other members of White Rock’s building-block family of optical access, transport and aggregation products will be on display at GLOBALCOMM 2006 (Booth # 20048) , Chicago, IL, June 5-7, 2006.
