Blogging Unites Homeschooling Families Worldwide

Blogging is the powerful new medium in communications today. Homeschoolers are some of the first ones on the new bandwagon.

When Gena Suarez, Publisher of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine, first came up with the idea for HomeschoolBlogger, many in the homeschooling community didn't even know what a blog was. Yet Gena had been researching blogging and saw it as a wonderful way to unite homeschoolers – creating a type of online homeschool support group community.

It all started with a grassroots effort of reaching out to homeschool support group leaders in each state, and quickly word of the friendly community of like-minded homeschool bloggers began to grow. People who had always wanted to be writers, now had a venue for their writing. People who wanted a way to share their homeschooling tips and methods could now put all of those things online. Families who just wanted a way to keep in touch with friends and relatives near and far began journaling their days. Parents encouraged their children to start blogs as a way to improve their writing. Companies blogged about what they had to offer homeschoolers. Friendships were formed, creative ideas shared, and much encouragement given.

And thus, blogging technology has served its purpose. It's taken homeschoolers from all over the world and made the world a smaller place. Its enabled home educators to network, support and encourage each other. And with over 6000 bloggers, HomeschoolBlogger has just touched the tip of the iceberg.
