Key West Mayor Performs Special Ceremonies For All People
Newest Key West Mayor Continues Island's respect for GLBTI community into his new administration by presiding over weddings and commitment ceremonies. Island continues to live up to "One Human Family" motto.
Key West, FL (PRWEB) May 29, 2006 -- Following a conversation between our CEO and newly elected Mayor Morgan McPherson of Key West before the Memorial Day holiday weekend, the mayor has consented to make time in his busy schedule to perform ceremonies for clients of savvyplanners.com, a certified, professional wedding and events firm. They have been called the first GLBTI-specific, wedding and events company in the US. The company plans to implement the mayor's services with several clients, as of the second week of June.
Continuing the relationship between the Mayor's office and savvyplanners.com, established with former Mayor Jimmy Weekley in 2004, Mayor McPherson will, also, be generously donating his entire fee to his most urgent philanthropic beneficiary: “Kathy's Hope”, a new women's support facility on Key West. “It's even sweeter that the treat for our clients is also of direct and immediate benefit to the facility's clients as well. It was a privilege to hear the Mayor's dedication as he mentioned the name of the organization intended to receive the contributions. He was genuinely concerned about the organization's condition. It was heartwarming and indicated a sensitive humanity,” said company CEO, MW Savant.
Consistent with the island-city's famed “come as you are”, laid-back, all-welcome greeting, the mayor will preside over same-sex, Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, transgender and Intersex (GLBTI) couples' events as well as traditional marriages for savvyplanners.com. The island's motto is “One Human Family”.
The mayor's participation is solely based on his availability when not tending to the city's official business. It was made clear that he could be counted on to do the work of the city, first and foremost. ”We are honored to have the good fortune of Mayor McPherson's willingness to officiate during our client's events. It is tremendous of him to contribute to an even more memorable event for our clients”, said Irma Rabinowitz, the Director of Client Care.
savvyplanners.com wishes to thank Mayor McPherson for his kind and special involvement in the special days of their clients. They thank him also, for the opportunity to assist this charitable cause in some small way. The company looks forward, as it grows in the years to come, to becoming more involved with some of the many worthwhile charitable organizations in Key West. The CEO has made some selections of 501(c)(3) groups, though he is not revealing their names at this time, pending discussions with the organizations directly.
The company has become recognized for its professional, sensitive and courteous service provided to all clients, whether gay or straight, though they are GLBTI focused in order to assist the GLBTI community with their special ceremonies. They fully understand the needs and concerns of the gay client while refusing to discriminate against non-GLBTI couples. When asked his opinion on weddings and marriage equality:
"Again I say that there is no gray area in equality. How can there be? Either, factually, we are all equal, as Americans and humans, or we are not. Full stop.
Every person that comes to me is equal to every other person seeking to commemorate their special relationship with the dedicated partner with whom they have chosen to spend the rest of their life.
At the very end of the day, it remains about the commitment, love and genuine respect for one's other half. To ignore that there are many different kinds of love between wedding-minded consenting adults, is an affront to and a dagger through the human heart. Isn't true love hard enough to find without having to endure inequality and hardship because of the person you happen to love?," Savant replied.
A sterling example of the open-minded, respectful and tolerant nature of the citizens of Key West is bolstered by the actions of its leadership across the board.
Rabinowitz offered, "In the completion interview and questionnaire, an overwhelming comment from clients and guests is how safe they felt and free they were to express the importance and seriousness of their wedding."
For clients from many parts of the nation and the world, this comfort is an unknown experience. Is Key West utopia? Perhaps. Maybe not. In any case Mayor McPherson continues to provide that safe space for people in love, like Mayor Weekley before him. Key West's good-natured approach to "live and let live" is a credit to the citizens, the past two mayors and those who led before them.
