Catholics Find Humor Through Satire Haiku
A satirist and blogger is encouraging Catholics to laugh at themselves through composing "Catholic culture" haiku.
Winona, Minnesota (PRWEB) May 28, 2006 -- A Catholic satirist and blogger is encouraging Catholics to laugh at themselves through composing "Catholic culture" haiku.
"The Ironic Catholic" is running a tongue-in-cheek contest for the best humorous haiku that has something to do with Catholic Christianity. The haiku, a style of Japanese poetry, must have something to do with Catholic Christianity. A sample haiku ran:
I pray in the night
Like a Trappist, chanting nones
Till mate jabs my ribs
"The point isn't to make fun of the core of the Catholic faith at all," said the anonymous blogger on his or her website. The website is devoted to the idea that humility, honesty, and humor are essential to studying and practicing religion, and more "gentle satire" may help divided church members relax and laugh: "Maybe laughing at ourselves would be a good way to decrease the tensions and remember what we are truly about: the love of God for all people."
The haiku entries must be received by June 12, 2006. More details are found at http:ironiccatholic.blogspot.com .
