A new Web site has been launched which is designed to offer an overview to the burgeoning Scottish independence movement. The Scottish Independence Guide http://www.scottishindependence.com.

Joe Middleton, a former activist with the Scottish National Party and a current activist with Independence First (the referendum campaign http://www.independence1st.com) and the Scottish Republican Socialist Movement (SRSM) explains why:

"Basically I felt that there has been such an enormous growth in the independence movement since the last election that there was a need to document all the pro independence groups and give an overview to the different campaigns that are happening currently."

"Many people in Scotland now believe that we are poised for a real breakthrough in the 2007 Scottish parliament elections, as little as one million votes could be enough to swing the election in favour of the SNP, Greens and SSP and the other pro-independence parties."

"The launch of the independence convention last year was a visible sign of the Scottish parties at last beginning to work together. Current polls are showing Labour in decline and the SNP on the rise, they also show that independence is the most popular constitutional option for the Scottish people. Independence is normality for most nations, it's time Scotland joined them and this website The Scottish Independence Guide - http://www.scottishindependence.com will explain how it can be done."

Mr Middleton says the website is a 'work in progress' and that he is looking for others to help develop the site further. "I've already received some help and the site is being constantly developed. I hope to get a committed group involved who will continue to develop the site to the stage where it is the first port of call for anyone looking for general information about Scotland and Scottish independence."

"The site can be automatically translated into a number of languages, including, French, German, Spanish and Japanese and I hope to be able to swap useful information with other independence movements worldwide. It includes articles on Wales, Ireland, Cornwall and the Basque country and we hope to cover other independence movements as well, such as Montenegro which is the most recent nation to vote for normal international status."

He added "I also hope the site will attract interest from Scots who have emigrated all across the globe."

As well as a complete political guide to the Scottish independence movement the site also looks at Scottish films, Scottish history, press bias amongst the London media, Scottish culture, music ( the site has a free MP3 jukebox), pro-independence magazines, forums and a lot more.
