The Top 100 Design Consultancy Survey is an annual league table of companies from across all design disciplines. The results are published each May and as the only survey of its’ kind is consequently respected as a valuable reference document by designers and clients alike. The data is compiled through a questionnaire posted on the Design Week website or sent out via an e-mail database. All relevant agencies, from print media to web design companies, were invited to take part by submitting figures for the 12 months from January to December 2005, signed off by an independent auditor.
The category of “Most bullish Top 100 groups” was ranked according to the companies’ percentage projected annual growth. Pod1, web design company, came out clearly on top with a projected growth figure of 100%, a massive 44% ahead of its nearest rival. Interestingly 11 out of the top 15 “most bullish” companies all specialised in digital media. This reinforces the general industry trend reported by digital media specialists as all groups in the top ten recorded an increase in income and the rest increased their fee income by over 10% rising to an impressive 42% in one instance.
This buoyant market has inevitably led to an expansion within Pod1 itself to facilitate this increased work load. A number of new appointments now take the total Pod1 team to over 30 people, working across the various areas of web design, web development and online marketing.
According to Fadi Shuman, one of the founding partners at Pod1, when asked what is behind the continued growth and development he says, “It’s all about being a specialist agency and focusing on what we do best, which is delivering high quality superb looking websites with great functionality and usability for both the clients and their customers”.
Pod1 has succeeded in exceeding all targets for the last financial year and looks set to continue this growth based on the volume of business currently passing through the agency. Recent design and build projects for Hi-Tec’s new e-commerce site, Paramount Hotels and Hiscox Insurance have all experienced an upsurge in revenue since the re-launches, while new business wins are currently running at up to two new accounts per week.
Co-founding partner, Marc Caudron says “Pod1’s success is primarily based on a 90% client retention record for both new business and return customers so based on the current performance we can expect at least a one hundred percent growth over the next 12 month period”.
