Protected VLX300 and VLX400 Systems Provide Carrier-Class T1-based IP and Ethernet Service Termination

White Rock Networks, a leading provider of next-generation optical transport systems for metro networks, announced today that it has added Ethernet transport capability and a protected chassis to its VLX300 and VLX400 Service Edge Concentrators.

The VLX300 and VLX400 Service Edge Concentrators allow providers to cost-effectively aggregate IP and TDM business services, statistically multiplex IP business services over less bandwidth and streamline network operations to realize dramatic capital and operational cost savings. By adding White Rock's Service Edge Concentrators to an existing network carriers can recover stranded bandwidth resources, improve network availability, facilitate rapid growth and deliver profitable new IP applications as they migrate to a single, converged IP infrastructure.

“The VLX300 and VLX400 are the industry’s only service edge concentrators. They provide high-density IP and Ethernet edge aggregation at a fraction of the cost to similar functions available in     edge-routers, and the new protected system allows service providers to deliver even more robust IP services to business subscribers,” said Paul Forzisi, Vice President of Marketing for White Rock Networks.

Incorporating Ethernet transport enables the VLX300 and VLX400 to receive customer Ethernet traffic originating on T1s, terminate it on channelized DS3 interfaces, and trunk the traffic using VLANs over Gigabit Ethernet. Customer traffic originating on a common DS1 can now be segmented into multiple Ethernet VLANs, provide support for stacked VLANs (allowing tunneling of tagged customer traffic), and secure in-band connections for the remote management of customer premise equipment. With the new chassis, systems can now be deployed using two cassettes for redundancy, providing an equipment-protected, carrier-class operation.

The VLX300, VLX400 and other elements of White Rock’s building-block family of optical access, transport and aggregation products will be on display at GLOBALCOMM 2006 (Booth # 20048), Chicago, IL, June 5-7, 2006.
