Imperial Optical, Inc., North America’s leading independent contact lens distributor, has entered into an agreement with Strategic Lens Innovations Corp. to market and distribute the Solus™ Brand family of contact lenses directly to eyecare professionals throughout the U.S. The Solus™ Brand family of contact lenses is comprised of: the Solus 55a, the Solus Platinum FRP, the Solus Platinum Toric, the Solus Platinum Daily Disposable, the Solus Platinum Daily Disposable Toric, the Solus TCL and the Solus Soft K.

David Pearce, Imperial Optical’s Director of Sales and Marketing said, “We are excited to introduce the Solus brand family of contact lenses into the U.S. eyecare market. The response to this new product line has been very favorable in Canada and the European Union. Based on the market research we have conducted, I believe this new brand of contact lenses offers eyecare providers a high-quality, yet economical alternative to meet a growing demand for value-priced contact lenses.”

Imperial Optical will begin distributing the Solus TCL, a toric custom lens, and the Solus 55a, an aspheric 1-2 week disposable, UV-blocking soft contact lens, immediately to U.S.-based eyecare professionals. Imperial Optical expects the Solus Soft K (a soft keratoconus lens) to be available by mid-summer 2006, with the Solus Platinum line, manufactured with Hioxyfilcon – a biocompatible material, to be introduced on a rolling basis over the second half of 2006 and into the first half of 2007 into the U.S. market.

The Solus TCL is custom-made to meet the hard-to-fit parameters of an irregular cornea with up to 10.0D of cylinder correction for astigmatism (sphere powers available from +20.0D to –20.0D). The Solus TCL uses a computer-controlled lathing technology that ensures a high rate of reproducibility. It is made from Acofilcon A, a new non-HEMA polymer material that allows increased moisture retention and resistance to deposits. The Solus TCL lens material is different than conventional HEMA lenses in that it has a much lower on-eye dehydration rate. Solus TCL is empirically fit, which means ECPs need only K-readings and a spectacle prescription and the manufacturer calculates the custom Rx. No difficult calculations required. The Solus TCL has a 100-day exchange warranty on all new fits.

The Solus 55a is made from Methafilcon A with a tangential flat back edge with reducing aspheric front optics. The Solus 55a contact lens offers clear, crisp vision because of its aspheric front surface. Combine this with the easy-to-handle material, and Solus 55a is ideal even for first time contact lens wearers. The Solus 55a is available in an 8.7 mm base curve, 14.5 mm diameter, sphere power range from +6.00D to –12.0D, UV blocking and a light blue handling tint. “Made from the same material and in the same parameters as the soon-to-be discontinued Choice A.B.™, the Solus 55a is an ideal substitute for happy Choice A.B. wearers. In fact, prescribing the Solus 55a for Choice A.B. wearers should not require a refit,” Pearce added.

“The Solus brand family of contact lenses incorporates state-of-the-art manufacturing processes with materials designed to enhance comfort, improve wettability, increase wearing times and provide better vision as a result of enhanced optics and lens geometry,” Pearce continued. “Strategic Lens Innovations Corp. developed the Solus brand family of lenses as an economical alternative – generally priced at a 10%-20% discount – to the big-four manufacturers’ same-class product offerings. Imperial Optical is now able to pass those savings on to eyecare professionals in the States.”

“According to our agreement with Strategic Lens Innovations Corp., we cannot restrict sales of the Solus family of lenses only to the independent eyecare channels. However, we will hold true to our single-tiered pricing structure. This means that independent private practitioners will get the same price points as buying groups, retail chains and wholesale clubs,” Pearce concluded.

Imperial Optical, Inc., founded in 1989, is the largest independent wholesale contact lens distributor in North America specifically focused on providing eyecare professionals with one-stop access to a superior selection of value-priced, top quality, branded contact lenses and a commitment to customer service known throughout the industry as the “Imperial Advantage.”    To learn more about Imperial Optical, Inc., the “Imperial Advantage” or how to become an Imperial Optical Strategic Partner, visit http://www.imperialoptical.com.
