Norfolk, VA (PRWEB) June 7, 2006
Joe Maniscalco, international performer and Norfolk, VA native, joins a long list of live performances by national recording artists as well as local and regional entertainers to perform at the 30th Annual Norfolk, VA Harborfest.
Norfolk Harborfest® -- a three-day event -- showcases 100 hours of live entertainment on six stages and more then 300 ships and vessels spread over 4 miles of the Downtown Norfolk waterfront. The event takes place in Town Point Park, Norfolk, Virginia on Friday, June 9 through Sunday, June 11, 2006. All events are free and open to the public.
Festivities begin on Friday, June 9 at 12 pm noon with the much anticipated Parade of Sail, honoring Capt. Lane Briggs and officially kicking off Harborfest weekend.
“It is an honor to perform during this event because Capt. Briggs was a personal friend and mentor as well as business partner,” explained Maniscalco. “Also, I am pleased to have performed in all 30 Harborfest events – that is a milestone.”
As a solo act or as a lead member of the TwoCan Jam Band, Maniscalco has been performing professionally for more than 25 years and has performed in 38 states and nine countries. During performances, Maniscalco plays nine instruments. While many of his songs showcase his Elle Minnette (Port of Spain, Trinidad / Tobago) steel pan, he frequently amazes his audience by playing two trumpets – simultaneously.
Other artists performing during the event include national recording artists Collective Soul; SugarRay; The Commodores; Julie Roberts; The Smithereens; The Connells; and Hotel California, the Eagles Tribute Band. Local and regional entertainers include Fighting Gravity; Scuttlebutt; Calypso Nuts; Mike Aiken Band; Olde James River Band; Mel Melton & the Wicked Mojos; Bootylicious; The Showmen and Jim Newsom Trio.
In addition to the musical entertainment, over 700 water vessels will sail into Downtown Norfolk at 3 pm Friday, June 9. The parade roster will include tall ships as well as character vessels, military craft, tugs and Chesapeake Bay workboats, most of which will be on display and many available for touring throughout Harborfest weekend.
