School's Out, So is the Sun. Is Your Child Sun-Protected?

The KTO brand of golf apparel & accessories for juniors 5 to 12 years of age offers UV protection and moisture management on its polo shirts.

SINGAPORE (PRWEB) June 7, 2006 -– School is out and scores of children will be heading outdoors for hours at a time. Some will head for the golf course. UV is at the highest from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. While the kids are out having fun, parents are bestowed the responsibility of ensuring their child’s safety while outside. Kids-Tee-Off, the makers of the KTO brand of golf apparel asks parents, “Is your child sun-safe?”

Did you know that the average T-shirt only offers the equivalent protection of a factor 7 sunblock? Yes, seven. “We’ve got your covered.” says Pamela Wigglesworth, the Managing Director of Kids-Tee-Off. “KTO polo shirts protect and keep kids comfortable while at play.”

By “protect,” Ms. Wigglesworth refers to Tinofast®, a UV protective treatment in KTO’s shirts, which guards young skin against the harmful effects of excessive sunlight. Shirts also have Ultraphil® Moisture Management, which wicks perspiration away from the body, keeping the child drier and more comfortable.

While most sun-protective clothing has UPF ratings of 20, Tinofast® can provide a UPF factor of up to 50 [depending on the fabric construction, content and color] meaning that only 1/50th of harmful UV rays can pass through the garment. The UPF rating is based on a test that measures the amount of ultraviolet radiation that passes through fabrics or clothing.

Ms. Wigglesworth adds, “Parents will protect their child while out driving by fastening them in with a seat belt, so it seems only natural that they would take the extra step to defend them from the sun with clothing with UV protection.”

Clothing provides one of the most convenient forms of protection against ultraviolet radiation (UVR), but only protects the skin that it covers. Sun protection should include sunscreens with an SPF of 15 or higher, hats with a wide brim, and sunglasses that block ultraviolet radiation.

Now that you’ve done your job for the kids, it’s time for them to do theirs…have fun in the sun.
