About the Benicia VAllejo Humane Society: Founded in 1987, the mission of the Benicia Vallejo Humane Society (a California non-profit) is to offer refuge, medical care, nourishment and an opportunity for a second chance for life to unwanted adoptable animals; to protect animals from cruelty, neglect, carelessness and ignorance; to foster a public sentiment of humanity and gentleness toward all animals through education and encouragement; and to promote the lifelong commitment of responsible pet ownership.

In its fledgling years, the Benicia Vallejo Humane Society operated without a facility to house animals. Volunteers provided foster care in their own homes to animals and struggled to place homeless animals to new homes. In 1991, the Benicia Vallejo Humane Society was offered a location by the City of Vallejo that is our current home to shelter the animals.

Since that time the shelter and programs has grown to meet the demands of the pet overpopulation explosion we are faced with as a nation. Each year over five thousand animals come through the door of the Benicia Vallejo Humane Society, some lost, others abused or neglected, sick, injured and unwanted and in need of our help. Today the Benicia Vallejo Humane Society through innovative programs and services, provide for the homeless animals and their guardians in the community we serve. The Benicia Vallejo Humane Society is committed to developing programs that create options for homeless animals and services for the prevention of unwanted animals. We aim to provide for the emotional and physical needs of the animals in our care and to find a home for every healthy, friendly, adoptable animal. contact 707.645.7905,
