TapeOnline.com now sells the new high capacity, HD Blu-ray blank media discs. TapeOnline.com offers TDK and Sony Blu-ray discs; a recordable disc (BD-R) and a re-writeable disc (BD-RE). Both single layer brands of Blu-ray discs offer up to 25 GB worth of disc space.
Blu-ray discs utilize blue-violet laser technology and can store large amounts of data (25GB on a single layer and up to 50GB on a double-layer disc). The name Blu-ray is derived from the blue-violet laser which is used to read and write data. DVDs and CDs, on the other hand, use a red laser to read and write data onto the disc. The shorter wavelength of a blue-violet laser is one of the factors that enables more data to be written in the same amount of space that a red laser currently uses. The developers of Blu-ray, The Blu-ray Disc Association, hope to make Blu-ray the next standard for consumer video playback, ultimately replacing DVDs.
“We have been anticipating the arrival of the Blu-ray discs, therefore we are excited to have them in stock and ready to ship”, says Napoleon Bissaillon, Product Manager at TapeOnline.com. “And as soon as the HD-DVDs come out, we’ll sell those too. At TapeOnline, we strive to keep up to date with new technologies and products to ensure customer satisfaction.”
