The newly formed Spaak Supply Teachers Agency based in Reading – South East of England is hosting its first ever Annual conference on Wednesday 30th August. The full day conference is split into presentations by invited University lecturers, local school Heads and A CORE of Senior Leadership team in the morning and workshops in the afternoon to explore the different ways in which cover staff impact on schools' teaching and experience.

The outcome from consultations with a core of local Headteachers and school Managers about the services provided by “giant” supply agencies indicate clearly that schools would prefer cover staff to be reliable, punctual, use their initiative and have good subject knowledge. Schools are not happy with the quality of service from the giant companies.

Teachers on their part feel they are not provided with the much needed support this challenging profession deserves. Consequently, cover staff do not make career progress in their cherished profession. Those companies are not aware of the radical changes in our schools in this technological age.

At Spaak, we are professionals who want our staff to be successful. In order to add quality to our services and ensure career progress, Spaak recruitment in collaboration with Reading University and a core of local schools leadership team, have designed a series of courses free of charge to our staff. The course is tailored to raise supply teachers’ awareness on potential challenges and provide individual support to ensure success.

The first session holds on Wednesday 30 August 2006. We expect that this Induction Conference, a unique feature of Spaak recruitment, will add the much needed quality in our services to local schools and revolutionise the supply market. Our cover staff’s success and progress in their career is a measure of Spaak’s success.

However, we invite Cover Supervisors from our local schools to attend at a token cost of £150 per day. We are making enquiries on certification.

The event aims to provide knowledge and guidance, share experiences, and give our staff an overview of the demands of a supply teacher, concentrating on the use of their initiative, reliability and Behaviour Management strategies. We are here to make a difference. Book your place on the course now! Closing date for school bookings is Friday 21st July 2006.

A lunch break will be incorporated into the day; however participants should note that lunch is not provided. There are on site catering facilities where they can purchase refreshments and we provide free coffee, tea and biscuits. Alternatively they are welcome to bring a packed lunch should they wish.

*At this one-day conference, specifically for Spaak staff and Cover Supervisors from partners schools, we will be launching the renewed approach to supply teaching. There will be a wide range of seminars to choose from, as well as the chance to hear from leading local school Headteacher figures on how the Spaak Supply Teachers Agency will be developing.

The conference brings together leading practitioners, academics and researchers to explore the interprofessional imperatives for supply teaching, with a focus on the renewed approach to supply teaching.

To book and for more details register with Spaak or e-mail us your contact. We will contact you to discuss your needs.

We make no charge for attending Spaak conferences, but we only pay expenses to registered teachers who are currently teaching in schools through Spaak, for whom the scale is their Travel expenses - standard rate rail fare or equivalent.
