Xemarc Offers Adhesive Pads Used for Measurement Calibration Marker (MCM) Ball Attachment

Xemarc originally introduced its light weight 25 mm and 1 inch diameter hollow calibration balls a few months ago. These balls are spherical, allowing them to work at any angle. Until a cost effective, sanitary solution for attachment was developed, the advantages of this product could not be fully realized. Xemarc's adhesive attachment pads is the solution.

(PRWEB) June 27, 2006 -- Xemarc, LLC (formerly Airball Medical) now offers Attachment Pads used for its 25mm or 1 inch Measurement Calibration Marker (MCM) Ball.

Xemarc originally introduced its light weight 25 mm and 1 inch diameter hollow calibration balls a few months ago (http://xemarc.com). These balls are spherical , allowing them to work at any angle. Until a cost effective, sanitary solution for attachment was developed, the advantages of this product could not be fully realized.

The hollow stainless steel Measurement Calibration Marker (MCM) ball provides medical practitioners with a precise measurement reference when viewing film x-rays, computerized radiography (CR) or direct radiography (DR). By providing a precise imaging reference, regardless of the angle of imaging, the MCM provides a level of measurement accuracy that is not attainable with makeshift methods (coins, 2D grids, etc.), which are distorted and inaccurate at any imaging angle other than perpendicular.

Traditional ways of attaching such a marker were less than ideal. Medical tape can be cumbersome, straps are unsanitary, and stands can be inaccurate and inconvenient to set up.

This product provides MCM attachment painlessly and securely to the skin (similar to a band-aid), and assures accurate placement at bone level.

Since the pads are low cost, they can be disposed of after each use, limiting the possibility of cross infection between patients.

These pads are 1.75 inches in diameter and are ideal for use in radiological studies of knees, elbows, hips, and other orthopedic locations. They are made from a 3 mil transparent polyethylene film with a pressure sensitive acrylate adhesive ring attached to securely nest the MCM. Both components are made from hypoallergenic medical grade materials.

Since the pads are sold separately from the markers, there is no need to dispose of the more costly marker after each use, just the low cost pad.

The marker attachment pad
The marker attachment pad uses a medical grade PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive) to attach to the patient, and an adhesive foam to attach the calibration marker to the pad.

The pad is attached to the patient, just prior to attaching the marker.

MCM is Attached to Patient with the Adhesive Pad
Attachment is easy using the two step process. 1) Attach the pad to patient 2) Attach the marker to the pad.
