Outraged, Disabled and Handicapped Injured Workers Demand Immediate Resignation of Safeway's Bill Zachry from California's Fraud Assessment Commission

June 20th Sacramento protest pits injured workers against John Garamendi’s Fraud Unit.

Sacramento, CA (PRWEB) June 12, 2006 -- California’s Department of Insurance Fraud Unit headquarters will be the apparent ground zero for a clash between handicapped and disabled injured workers and the commission that allocates millions of dollars to district attorneys to prosecute workers’ compensation fraud cases.

“Arnold Schwarzenegger’s re-appointment last week of Bill Zachry to the FAC is a slap in the face to all injured workers. Zachry, more than anyone else, perpetrated the hoax and scam that injured workers were to blame for run-away work comp premiums that allowed for the passage of S.B. 899 in California,” claims injured worker activist Larry Nign. Nign was the subject of a documentary in 2005 called “Almost Broken.”

Zachry is the vice president for workers’ compensation programs for Safeway, Inc. of Pleasanton, California; he received reappointment to the FAC by Schwarzenegger last week. Zachry has been on the seven-member panel as a commissioner for eight years.

Handicapped and disabled injured worker activists will sponsor a protest, Tuesday, June 20th, at the Department of Insurance Fraud Unit in Sacramento. John Garamendi, candidate for Lt. Governor, is the present Commissioner of Insurance and ultimately responsible for work comp fraud enforcement via the Fraud Unit.

“The FAC empowers district attorneys and the fraud unit with millions of dollars to bust small fry work comp cheats perpetuating the scam and hoax that they are responsible for high premium rates while the big fish get-away, like corrupt attorneys and corporate claims adjustors who violate California penal and insurance codes everyday with immunity,” said Nign.
