IPROMS 2006 is an online web-based conference organised by the EU funded FP6 IPROMS Network of Excellence coordinated by the MEC at Cardiff University. IPROMS 2006 allows people across the world to register as guest delegates and view paper abstracts and presentations and take part in online discussions, free of charge.

As a contribution to advancing research in the field of manufacturing, the Network of Excellence for Innovative Production Machines and Systems (I*PROMS), funded under the EU Sixth Framework Programme, is organising IPROMS 2006, an International Virtual Conference on Intelligent Production Machines and Systems, for July 3 to July 14.

IPROMS 2006 provides a platform for presenting, discussing and disseminating research results contributed by scientists and industrial practitioners active in the area of intelligent systems and soft computing techniques and their application in different areas of manufacturing. During the conference, people across the world will be able to register FREE of charge as guest delegates and view papers and presentations and take part in the online discussions via the conference Web site http://conference.iproms.org

IPROMS 2006 builds upon the outstanding success of the IPROMS 2005 virtual conference held in July of last year. During IPROMS 2005 there were some 4168 registered delegates and guests from 71 countries who participated in the conference thereby making it a truly global phenomenon. Since the conference, there have been some 170,000 visits to the conference website. Papers presented during last years conference continue to regularly appear in the top 5 search results from popular search engines such as Google, Yahoo and MSN.

Technology areas covered by IPROMS 2006 include Collaborative and Responsive Manufacturing Systems; Concurrent Engineering; E-manufacturing, e-business and virtual enterprises; Innovative Production Machines and Systems; Intelligent Automation Systems; Intelligent and Competitive Manufacturing; Intelligent Decision Support Systems; Intelligent Design Systems; Micro/ Nano Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS / NEMS); Reconfigurable Manufacturing Systems; Robotics and Sustainable Manufacturing Systems.

The conference proceedings will be published as a book and a CD-ROM by Elsevier.
