Anyone who tells you that space is the final frontier has watched one too many Star Trek episodes. And those of you who thought that the days of exploration and discovery were over don’t realize that we’ve entered a new age of discovery: The Internet Age.
My team and I have put together our top 5 list of All-Time Web Concepts. We've chosen the following 5 for their originality, wit and internet power. Not to mention the fact that pretty much every person in the civilized world that has touched a computer has either heard of or used at least 1 of the following 5 All-Time Web Concepts.
Fifth Place: Wager Island, http://www.wagerisland.com
The youngest entry on our list, Wager Island, is bringing about all kinds of paradoxical issues to the forefront. First and foremost, the paradox of virtual reality.
Can you make money in a virtual economy? Apparently so... with virtual real estate, virtual stocks, virtual gold and virtual politics.
Wager Island redefines what economy is, how supply & demand work and how its all in the mind... and wallet. It's also redefining online entertainment and there's no other game out there like it. It makes our list for being original, daring and fun.
Fourth Place: The Rich Jerk, http://www.therichjerk.com
"Let's get something straight. I am a jerk. I am obnoxious. I am lazy. And I don't care, because I am filthy rich. I am much too important to even be sitting here writing this right now. So I'll keep it short. I make several million dollars every year on the internet, doing almost nothing."
Ouch, don't pull too many punches there pal. The Rich Jerk's no-nonsense tell-it-like-it-is style has made his website and his e-book one of the highest rated and fastest selling on the web. From Amazon.com to his very own website the Rich Jerk is the newest and most successful of the Wannabe Rich Gurus.
His e-Book, "Making money on the Internet is Easy" is barbarian poetry at its finest and gets 5 stars from your's truly. Fork out 60 bucks for a copy, follow it religiously, then you can be a Rich Jerk too.
Third Place: eBay, http://www.ebay.com
Whatever it is, you can get it on eBay. eBay is the Wal-Mart of the internet but better, it's the world's online marketplace; a place for buyers and sellers to come together and trade almost anything.
On top of it all, eBay's new "IT" marketing campaign is making the internet more Cable/TV/Primetime credible.
Its advertising speaks for itself... "What is 'it'? Introducing the new 'it'. With sleek design and incredible handling 'it' can turn on a dime, 'it' can hold up to 2500 of your favorite songs, 'it' can cook everything from succulent chicken to chateau brion, 'it' doesn't lose suction, 'it' was designed by German engineers and developed in Sweden by renowned Japanese scientists..." It's brilliant.
Second Place: Google, http://www.google.com
Hail Google, hail Google, hail Google. Can you imagine the internet without Google? An internet with only Yahoo and MSN? I shudder to think of such a place.
Google is the Godfather of the Internet. It runs all the rackets from Adwords to Adsense. You want presence on the Web, need good Page Ranks? You better kiss the hand of the Godfather and pray to your maker you don't make 'em mad.
Google is the information highway, plain and simple. And for that, along with its sheer might, its number two.
First Place: E-gold, http://www.e-gold.com
E-gold is a revolution in itself, freeing millions upon millions of people in almost every country of the world from the tyranny of paper money in the real world or virtual. It's the closet and only thing to credible money on the web.
Backed by gold and going strong, E-gold is one of the first and by far the most reputable online digital currencies. Yes, that's right... an electronic digital currency backed by gold.
Put money in your E-gold account and you own gold, real gold. Your account appreciates or depreciates with the price of gold. Send E-gold to merchants all over the world in exchange for your favorite items.
Or, the real kicker is, you can have the real gold equivalent of what's in your E-gold account delivered to your door.
