The press has dubbed him “the Dr. Phil of Prayer” and “the next big thing in religious media.” He currently pulls in a quarter million viewers per night on major secular network affiliates throughout Florida, and his show is ranked number one and two in its time slot in each market. And on July 3rd he’ll debut his late-night television talk show, “LivePrayer with Bill Keller,” on the i television network (formerly the PAX network). The show will air nightly Monday through Friday from Midnight to 1:00 a.m. ET/PT (11 p.m. to Midnight CT/MT).
“We’ve done our homework, and this program is primed to attract a massive national audience,” said Keller, who launched “LivePrayer” in 2003 as an outgrowth of his online outreach LivePrayer.com. The nightly program features Keller, a businessman and ex-con turned preacher, offering prayer and advice to callers and spiritual exhortation to viewers.
“We’re not your typical Christian television program,” he explained. “Our only guests are the viewers who call in. And we don’t beg for money or sell anything. ‘LivePrayer’ isn’t about hustling people – it’s about helping them in their time of need. We want to be where the lonely, the rejected, and the marginalized congregate. By and large they are not heading to the church. But our research shows you’ll find them channel surfing on TV late at night.”
Keller has no doubt “LivePrayer” will give the other secular talk shows a run for their money. “‘Larry King Live’ pulls in about one million viewers nightly,” he noted, “and ‘The O’Reilly Factor’ (currently the top-rated program on cable), has about two million viewers per night. We’re optimistic that we will immediately be at one million viewers nightly. And within that first year we will be up around two million viewers.”
In addition to the nightly television program and the Liveprayer.com website, Keller sends out a daily devotional to 2.1 million e-mail subscribers, a number he expects to increase by three million additional subscribers with the national TV launch. “By the end of the first year of our nightly program, we expect to be reaching a minimum of two million people every night on TV and over five million every day through Liveprayer.com,” an enthusiastic Keller said. “We are convinced that with our national launch on the i network, ‘LivePrayer’ will be one of the most cutting-edge faith outreaches in the world.”
The i network is available in more than 90 million homes via local broadcast stations, cable and satellite. Viewers should check their local listings or http://www.ionline.tv for time and channel information.
