As summer rolls in, allergy season is in full swing. Many people mistakenly believe that when they go indoors, they are safe from many of the pollens and molecules that cause these allergies. Unfortunately, a closed up house has millions of allergens that can irritate even those without allergies.
Houses have many allergen sources, for example dust mites excrete allergens in fecal particles in carpet or bedding. Also, every house has mold spores, which are another type of allergen. By closing up a house, these allergens will be trapped in one place, thereby increasing their concentration and their irritation.
“The more exposure you have to mold the more likely you will be to have some type of allergic reaction to it, ” said ‘Good House’ expert Matt Shipley. “The solution is quite reasonable, especially for those who perennially suffer from allergies. Install a HEPA filtration system in your house.”
A High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filter has a minimum particle removal efficiency of 99.97% for all particles of 0.3-micron diameter with higher efficiency for both larger and smaller particles. HEPA filters will allow the exchange of air in a house at a recommended rate without bringing in the pollen infested outdoor air.
“HEPA systems will filter outdoor air as it comes into your house so you get fresh, clean air replacing polluted or stale air in your house,” said Shipley. “They can help turn your house into a real respiratory sanctuary instead of just a perceived one.”
