SAN FRANCISCO (PRWEB) June 15, 2006 -- “Runners High” takes two festival screening laps around New York’s AMC Loew’s 34th Street Theatre on June 22 and 23rd during the 10th Annual Urban World VIBE Film Festival. Filmmakers Justine Jacob and Alex D. da Silva will be on hand to deliver their compelling feature length documentary about teenagers from one of the nation’s toughest neighborhoods in Oakland, California who sign up to train for and run the Los Angeles marathon—it’s a journey of a lifetime.
“We wanted to show a side of Oakland, California that’s often overlooked,” said Justine Jacob, Runners High, producer and director. “The most rewarding part of being involved in bringing this story to the screen has been witnessing firsthand the difference Students Run Oakland makes in these teens lives.”
“Runners High” delivers an intimate character driven documentary of struggle, courage, and hope. During a season filled with conflict and possibility, four of these teens bare their dreams, joys, tears and fears. As several stumble under pressure in emotionally charged moments, others realize the journey begins with the power and commitment to accept responsibility for their own futures. “Runners High” shows that no matter what happens next, one season of training to run 26.2 miles can change your life forever.
The film made it’s world premiere at the 49th San Francisco International Film Festival and Canadian premiere at Toronto’s Hot Docs International Film Festival in April 2006. Urban World VIBE Festival screen times: June 22 10:10 a.m. and June 23 8:15 p.m., AMC Loew’s 34th Street Theatres.
