Sim Farar TV Communications Investment Executive to be Honored with Star on Palm Springs Walk of Stars
Former Clinton administration appointee honored by his hometown with A Star
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) June 16, 2006 -- Sim Farar, will receive the 274th star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars. Many dignitaries will attend including U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer as the keynote speaker. The ceremony, which is by invitation only and will be held indoors due to the heat, will be at the Chop House Restaurant, located at 262 S. Palm Canyon Dr. on Saturday, June 17, 2006 at 6 PM. Robert Alexander, president of the Palm Springs Walk of Stars, will preside over the event. The star will be placed in the sidewalk on June 19th.
Sim Farar, currently residing in Los Angeles remains proud of his Palm Springs roots. He moved to the Desert in 1959 and graduated from Palm Springs High School in 1963. He began his career while in high school as a disc jockey at KPAL Radio and then hosted the first local television dance show for KESQ TV Channel 3 called The Happening which aired for 13 weeks in 1969. Sim then sought to broaden his scope in radio and worked at KDAY, KOST-FM and KROQ in Los Angeles.
In 1999 President William Jefferson Clinton appointed Sim to serve as the United States representative to the 54th General Assembly at the United Nations where he was approved by the United States Senate and served out his term through the year 2000. His wife, Dr.Debra Farar, is a current gubernatorial appointee to the Board of Trustees of the California State University System. She was first appointed by Governor Gray Davis in 1999 and re-appointed recently by Governor Arnold Swartzeneggar.
Sim started a television station in Palm Springs called KYAV-TV, Azteca America, Channel 19 and it became a successful Spanish speaking station that was purchased in 2003 by CBS-TV where he is currently a consultant to the station.
Palm Springs Walk of Stars was founded in 1992 and honors outstanding individuals with a Golden Palm Star on the sidewalks of Palm Springs. Honorees have contributed to the charm, prominence, and name recognition of the greater Palm Springs area. There are 273 stars to date, in the following categories: Show Business, Literary, Music, Pioneers, Civic Leaders, Humanitarian, Sports, and Military.
