Leading UK bespoke furniture maker Alexander Miles, announces the release of his new and exclusive contemporary collection for Summer 2006

Alexander Miles, one of the UK’s leading fine English cabinet-makers, is pleased to announce the release of a stunning new contemporary collection for Summer 2006. (

With all designs exclusive to the company, the pieces are currently on display in their West End showroom, and have been crafted from the finest premium black walnut. Soon to be available in oak, all items are handmade in the United Kingdom, in the bespoke tradition that the company is renowned for. The new collection features elegant geometric shapes, and further expands what is already a diverse catalogue of products.

“We are extremely delighted with this latest collection” said Alex Miles, Managing Director and Head Designer for Alexander Miles. “We have built a strong reputation for producing contemporary designs of the highest quality, and believe that these additions will help reinforce this.” Since its inception almost a decade ago, the company has evolved from offering a small selection of beds in stainless steel and timber, to now showcasing some of the most sought-after designs available.

As with the planning of each preceding furniture range, careful consideration is given to ensuring the correct selection of manufacturing materials. “Consumers shop not only with their eyes, but also with their hands” says Alex. “They like to feel the smoothness of the timber, or the texture of the leathers and fabrics. Our furniture encourages this kind of tactile response as well as appealing to the visual sense. I like to see our showroom visitors sitting on our sofas and testing our beds; it means that our design philosophy is on the right track”. This philosophy has also been applied to the new selection; in particular, the sleek, smooth contours of the Cabrini media unit with its deep storage drawers, and additional, accompanying wall-mounted shelves, invite a hands-on exploration. While most of the pieces are strongly rectilinear in design, the circular, stylised shape of the Savio ‘Q’ wall mirror with its integral yet unobtrusive shelf, offers a striking contrast, particularly when paired with the Savio console table. Including two drawers for storing smaller items, the table is narrow enough to reside in any hallway, while being equally suited for use as a living- or dining-room piece.

The range of occasional tables on offer has also increased with the addition of the Russo Duo coffee table. The table-top features two pieces of walnut veneer which are juxtaposed to one another, so that the grain runs at a right-angle to the adjacent piece. Of this, Alex comments, “I wanted to draw attention to the differences in the grain that the table shows. By showing-off the straight grain on the top, the curled grain in the legs becomes much more noticeable”. But for a twist on traditional design, look no further than the unusual Pezzo Tripod table. Guaranteed to add a ‘wow’ factor to any interiorscape, the polished circle of glass nestles firmly amid a base comprised of solid timber vertices with shaped ends that connect at a central point. “This piece represents our first foray into concept furniture – it’s artistically styled but highly practical. At first sight the table looks quite delicate, but the overall construction means that it’s really quite strong and solidly built”.

To complete the new collection, the Planta planter boxes are a first for Alexander Miles. Offering an elegant and sophisticated solution for most indoor planting, the boxes are deep enough to plant most large indoor species. In addition to the wooden furniture, a new upholstered design in the form of the Lunar sofa. Displayed in a striking white leather, a matching chair is available in addition to the four- three- and two-seater size selections. A choice of colours will also be offered.

All designs are exclusively available from Alexander Miles, and are now on display at the company’s flagship showroom, situated at 68 Welbeck Street, London W1. For further information, call 0044 207 486 4545.
