(PRWEB) June 17, 2006 -- Premier Assistive Technology, Inc. goes international with the grand opening of Premier Assistive Canada, located in Sydney, Nova Scotia. This is not simply a branch office, but a true Canadian-based corporation, and is located on the island of Cape Breton.
Ken Grisham, President / CEO, acknowledges “From its beginning, Premier Assistive has continued to expand our presence in Canada. We already have great working relationships with a number of organizations across Canada and we know we’ve only scratched the surface of our potential to bring affordable technologies to schools, homes and institutions. Looking forward, we see tremendous opportunities throughout Canada, so it makes perfect sense for us to establish a formal corporate office in Canada. We also view Canada as the ideal location for us to position a base for any of our expanding International operations. We will be designing, building, selling and distributing our products right here in Canada.”
Dr. Steve Timmer, Chief Technology Officer, explains “The Premier Assistive Canada operation will also house our Research and Development Center and is located on the Marconi campus of the Nova Scotia Community College. We also have a working relationship with nearby Cape Breton University to pursue use of assistive technologies for their students. In addition to overall assistive technology research and use of our technologies by students, by working with local academic institutions, Premier Assistive Canada will seek to provide real world internships to students in a wide variety of fields from marketing to software development. Many students with disabilities find it difficult to get into traditional internships. With Premier located near the campus, we are able to bring real world internships to the campus. By the inherent nature of developing assistive technology, Premier Assistive Canada is uniquely qualified to provide internships for people who have disabilities and show them how to succeed outside of the classroom.”
Dr. Timmer continues “One of the first internationally focused Research and Development projects already being pursued is localization of our technologies. Many technologies in the market are English-only, but Premier is going to change that. We are immediately targeting all of our cost-effective products to soon be available in English, Spanish and French, major platforms for both North and South America. We also expect initiatives in digital voice development and speech-to-text recognition, just to name a few.”
