It is spectacularly understated, elegant and dead gorgeous. It is a dress in detail and craftsmanship suitable for a Maharaja's daughter or an english princess but at the same time restrained and elegant enough for an understated American equestrian champion.

Visualize this wedding dress, designed and made by Bibhu Mohapatra for equestrian champion, Allison Beard: 20 yards of hand loomed Japanese silk in powdered ivory, 100 yards of hand dyed silk tulle sprinkled with thousands of hand embroidered silk poppy flowers for the royal veil. The under layers of the gown trimmed with encrusted caviar beading of smoked quartz and semi precious stones in an ancient Indian Zardosi technique, peaking through the arched hemline of the dress which rests on a structured underskirt made with hand pleated silk tulle and tea stained silk mousseline. All done by artisans of three different beading salons in India and Lasage of Paris. The final creation put together in New York.

One might think it sounds like a bit too much? not so.... It is spectacularly understated, elegant and dead gorgeous. It is a dress in detail and craftsmanship which would be suitable for a Maharaja' s daughter or an English princess but at the same time restrained and elegant enough for an understated American equestrian champion.

The wedding to Tom Luzier was in Tampa on March 17th, 2007, but work on the dress started in March of 2006. The first fitting took place in New York in june 2006. Then the dress began a trip around the world to be embellished by the worlds best hands.

The bride is a 2 time world champion equestrian. Allison won the Good Hands class at Madison Square Garden twice. She rode competitively in South Africa as a teenager with the American equestrian team. While currently a vice president in the commercial real estate division of Bank of America, the bride also continues to guide the continued growth of the family real estate empire, chair charitable events, train her horses, travel the country to ride competitively, she also continues to expand her political influence in Florida, attend conferences, and pretty much over saw the planning of her wedding . One busy lady....

"The sparkle of last season's bullion embroidery has been replaced with matte white beads or, more frequently, with an absence of ornamentation that let his sinuous silhouettes in barely-there face-powder shades take center stage. By this point in the season, the tiered evening column gown has already become familiar, but Mohapatra's hand-worked numbers, with their chevrons of chiffon, were in a category of their own."
