Sunshine Factory Presents Beyond Graffiti, Part II: Fresh Flavors from Paris, Tel Aviv and NYC

Following the enthusiastic response to Beyond Graffiti: Fresh Visions from Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and NYC at NYU’s Bronfman Center Gallery, Sunshine Factory is delighted to present Beyond Graffiti, Part II: Fresh Flavors from Paris, Tel Aviv and NYC.

New York City, NY (PRWEB) June 19, 2006 -- Inspired by Old School graffiti, today’s urban artists are integrating its visual language into design, illustration, fine arts, and marketing. Moving beyond spray paint and markers on walls and black books, they apply a range of materials and techniques to a variety of surfaces.

Those artists who maintain the streets as their galleries are increasingly using stencils, stickers, logos and posters to address political and social issues or to make personal, often playful, statements.

Among the artists representing Paris is Native, who masterfully integrates elements of Arabic calligraphy and Muslim culture into comic urban visions, and celebrated street artist Popay – renowned for his outrageously alluring characters.

Featured artwork from Tel Aviv includes Noa Mahalu’s playfully seductive stenciled art on vinyl and Aya Dan’s sumptuously expressive designs on cardboard.

Artists representing New York City include: Elliot Bassman, Shane Bovell, Cern, Daniel Greenfeld, Gia Gutierrez, Aaron Lazansky–Oliva, John Lopez, and Meres, founder and director of the graffiti mecca, 5 Pointz,

Curated by Lois Stavsky, the exhibit opens on June 22 and continues through August 30th. A reception will be held on Thursday, June 22, 5-7pm.

The gallery is located at 11 Essex Street between Canal and Hester Streets on Manhattan's Lower East Side. Hours are Monday – Friday, 7:30am – 5:00pm and Sunday, 9:00am – 5:00pm.
