Singapore (PRWEB) June 21, 2006 -- International logistics company Birkart Globistics air + ocean, a Thiel subsidiary, today announced its successes of 2005 – an 18% increase in sales, and a 40% profit rise. Headquartered in Aschaffenburg, Germany the company has reported an increase in sales amounting to 353.6 million euros while seeing a 11.3 million euros in profits.

Birkart Globistics air + ocean sells tailored logistics solutions to mid-sized customers and individual operating units within larger companies. “A driving force behind the increase in sales is the business from new customers in the European market for air and sea freight from and to Asia.” explains Michael U. Villinger, Global CEO of Birkart Globistics air + ocean. As a result, Birkart has steadily been pooling its growth of new customers across Asia and has also expanded on existing projects in the region. “In South East Asia, Birkart’s profits doubled in all countries although it lost some business to China, we managed to sustain our profits due to strong sales performances in the rest of Asia,” said Wolfgang Laube, Birkart’s Regional Managing Director South East Asia. “To fuel further growth, we are looking to expand into the Indian subcontinent. Where before, we have worked with various agents, this year, we plan on opening up offices in key cities to expand our presence.”

Birkart Air + Ocean’s South East Asian regional office is headquartered in Singapore recently revamped their warehouse to cope with rising demands. “Our new warehouse is fitted with a state-of-the-art inventory system to cater for our growing clients in the automotive, lifestyle and pharmaceutical industries,” added Wolfgang.

Strong growth in 2005 was especially seen in Australia and Singapore, due mostly to strong sales activities and healthy economies in the two countries. Growth in Malaysia has been driven by the outsourcing trend where companies in the fashion, automotive and pharmaceutical industries are outsourcing more and more to logistics providers like Birkart.

To support continued growth in the region, Birkart has beefed up its management team in the region. In Indonesia it has appointed Frank Eschenhagen as Technical Advisor to the Managing Director, primarily growing the German MNC business in Indonesia. In Australia, under the leadership of its Managing Director, Mr. Thomas Kilian, based in Sydney, the company has established a new team in Melbourne, spear headed by Mrs. Christina Kloeser to grow the Victorian market. Plans are underway to move to new premises in Melbourne as well.

In 2006, Birkart Globistics air + ocean is continuing its strategy of setting itself apart from the competition through tailored logistics solutions and personalised service culture. At the same time, new markets are to be opened, with emphasis on Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia as well as South America. Michael U. Villinger: “We assume that we will be able to consistently continue to pursue our healthy growth trend against the background of increasing world trade.”

“Birkart South East Asia will focus on strengthening its Intra Asia business and concentrate on the development of the market in the Indian subcontinent,” said Mr Laube. “The logistics industry is growing in Singapore and Birkart, with its Southeast Asian headquarters here, is poised to be part of that growth. Singapore has already overtaken Hong Kong in terms of numbers of containers seen in 2005. Volumes are increasing and Birkart is confident of continued growth and strong performance,” he continued.
