New York, NY (PRWEB) July 17, 2006 -- Ballroom Rock Star Magazine, an urban gay men’s fashion and lifestyle magazine which celebrates the acute style, creative spirit and perseverance of the gay community, in conjunction with The Black Aids Institute Presents The Crystal Awards. An HIV/AIDS awareness and support fundraising award ceremony celebrating the ballroom community’s most ingenious ballroom contenders who compete in the arena of flawless talent and the individuals who have continuously facilitated to bring awareness to the Gay community; particularly its budding sub-culture, The Ballroom Community.

The event is hosted by revered film and television actress, Vivica A. Fox with co-hosts, the Ballroom Community’s very own Whitney Miyake-Mugler & Kimora Allure. It is to be held at the prominent Tribeca Performing Arts Center at the Borough Of Manhattan Community College on Saturday, September 16th, 2006 and will raise money for The Black AIDS Institute. The Black AIDS Institute is a training and mobilization center focused exclusively on Black people. The Institute's mission is to stop the AIDS pandemic in Black communities by engaging and mobilizing Black institutions and individuals in efforts to confront HIV. The Institute interprets public and private sector HIV policies, conducts trainings, offers technical assistance, disseminates information and provides advocacy from a uniquely and unapologetically Black point of view.

Along the course of a year, ballroom competitors travel throughout the United Sates challenging each other in unique categories ranging from Acrobatic dance to High-end fashion competitions. These contenders vie for cash prizes that range from $1,000 to $5,000 for a single category. Crystal Award Honorees include Aretha Franklin, who will be receiving the Entertainment Lifetime Achievement Award. Beyonce Knowles who will be receiving the Pop Icon Award. Patricia Field, costume designer for SEX IN THE CITY and recipient of the Angel Award; she has been supportive of the ballroom community and a visible advocate the gay community for well over 20 years. Andre Mizrahi, who will receive The Lifetime Achievement award for his contributions to the gay/ballroom community for the past 20 years. Stephanie Milan is receiving the Visionary Award. Her whimsical sense of fashion has inspired entertainment and fashion celebrities such as David LaChappelle, Gwen Stefani, Zaldy as well as the entire LGBT community. Auburt Evisu is receiving the Humanitarian Award for this work with the outreach for GMHC; he pioneered outreach in the ballroom community and was the first activist to promote HIV/AIDS awareness in the ballroom community and has continued to do so over the past 15 years.

The night promises to be extravagantly entertaining, filled with non-stop entertainment and a special surprise musical performance to be revealed the night of. Celebrity invited guests and advocates of the fight against HIV/AIDS include: Billy Porter, Lloyd Boston, Mya, Anthony Lamont, Harmonica Sunbeam, Lady Bunny, David LaChapelle, Keith Boykin, Maurice Jamal, Patrick Ian Polk, Walter Green, Amanda Lepore, Richie Rich, Rashaun Patterson, Carson Kressley, Philip Bloch, Jensen Atwood, Kelis, Tyra Banks, Jay Manuel, Eva Pigford, Sheryl Swoops, Anthony Mackie, GHMC Reps, POCC Reps, Toccarra, Ron Brown, Nole Marin, E. Lynn Harris, and other surprise guests.
