Nature Publishing Group (NPG) supports the broadest possible participation of qualified scientists in scientific conferences. To pursue this goal, NPG has established the NPG/GRC Awards to help potential delegates from developing countries attend the internationally renowned Gordon Research Conferences (GRC). This follows NPG’s inauguration of awards, for creative mentoring in science, with NESTA in 2005 (see below).
NPG will provide funds for individuals from developing nations to attend Gordon Research Conferences in 2006. Funding awards of up to $1,500.00 will be made available to support participants who meet the eligibility criteria. Only those who meet these requirements may apply for support.
Prospective funding recipients must apply to, and be accepted as a delegate, for any of the 2006 Gordon Conferences in order to apply for funding. Support is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications to attend a GRC may be submitted via the GRC web site at http://www.grc.org/application/

NB: Candidates must be accepted to a conference in order to apply. Accepted delegates that are eligible to apply for funding should fill out the application below and email this application to NPG@grc.org.

The Gordon Research Conferences provide an international forum for the presentation and discussion of frontier research in the biological, chemical, and physical sciences, and their related technologies. Each Gordon Research Conference has a recurring thematic topic and strives to be the overall best meeting in its field. A conference program may extend to related subjects in areas such as industrial technology, the environmental sciences, geology, medicine, computation, science education, and public policy. The primary criteria for attendance at a Conference are scientific accomplishment and, implicitly, the commitment to participate actively and meaningfully in the discussions.
About The Nature Awards for Mentoring in Science
This year Nature will be sponsoring awards for high-achieving mentors in two regions: the United Kingdom and Australasia. There will be two prizes awarded: one for a lifetime's achievement in mentoring, and another to an individual in the middle of his or her career. Nominations for the UK awards, cosponsored by the UK's National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA) closed on 19 June. The Australasia awards are now open for nominations and the closing date is 31 July.
