(PRWEB) June 24, 2006 -- When heating and ventilation trade suppliers Senior Hargreaves opened their Merseyside Ductshop in 2005 they were keen to become part of the community. Sponsorship was agreed with Alder Hey Children’s Hospital based on the success of the trade counter.

Handing over a cheque for £4000 on June 12 director of Ductshops Phil Johnson commented “Opening up in Merseyside has been one of the best business decisions we have made in the last decade. Trade customers have been good to us over the first 12 months and we are delighted we can give something back to such a vital facility.”

Fund raising manager Christine Done explained, “We need more support like this. The donation will go to the Alder Hey Imagine Appeal. This enables us to achieve that little bit more, from researching medical conditions to buying vital equipment. Also, it will help us to build a better environment and provide facilities for families.”

The second phase in Hargreaves support for the hospital will be the donation of a life sized Tin Man that was built by engineers at their Bury factory. Plans are in hand for the location and dedication of this feature in the hospital grounds in the near future.

Notes for Editors

Alder Hey is the largest children’s hospital in Western Europe and treats around 200,000 children per year. These are drawn not just from Merseyside but from as far as Cumbria, Shropshire and the Isle of Man, with some patients coming from overseas for special treatment. The hospital is noted for its specialist cardiac, oncology and cranio-facial units.

Hargreaves Ductshops are trade counters where local heating and ventilation contractors, and others in the construction business, can source ductwork, fans, filters, dampers, grilles and all the other components needed for ventilation systems.

The Tin Man is inspired by the Wizard of Oz character this is a life sized replica made in stainless steel. The statue has been created by Senior Hargreaves engineers using a combination of traditional metalworking craft skills and advanced welding techniques.
