Online dating has long been a slightly embarrassing but convenient means of finding a mate, used by millions around the world. Serious daters are often disappointed by misleading profiles and photo-shopped pictures. The creators took these facts on board and have created a chic and exclusive way for attractive people to meet.

Integral to this web site is the term “natural selection”, which was coined by Charles Darwin in his book The Origin of Species (1859). Natural selection is a "process by which individual organisms with favourable traits are more likely to survive and reproduce" (definition from Wikipedia).    

The creators of Darwindating.com say “Our site is a natural evolution in the online dating industry. Regular online dating services aren’t for the discerning dater. This site is committed to providing a convenient, exclusive online dating service to objectively stunning people.”

So who decides if you are beautiful enough to be a member of Darwindating.com?

Members review applicants photos and give a rating from 1 (baboon) to 5 (babe). If the consensus is “babe”, an offer of membership is extended to the applicant. On acceptance the applicant becomes part of a select, highly evolved sample of the human race.

Darwindating.com was started by a group of uni friends from Sunny Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Having all studied and launched professional careers, each found that their chosen career wasn’t quite as sexy as they’d hoped it would be. Sure, there were great perks, but the thought of sitting in a dingy office for the rest of time didn’t appeal to any of them…

Today most professions are largely web dependent. Observing both this and the shift to web based media the creators could see the value in creating innovative web sites. As each developed different areas of expertise, they became a group of people who could offer valuable skills to a business.
