Denise Solay, one of America’s leading jewelry designers who creates “Unforgettable jewelry for Unforgettable Women,” writes in her recent FYI, Jewelry Information Report, “I’m reintroducing to my website, http://www.denisesolaydesigns.com some of the most unique designs from my timeless, ETHNIX COLLECTION – Jewelry With a Hint of History®. http://www.denisesolaydesigns.com/pages/3256/ETHNIX.htm This collection hasn't been on my website for quite some time.”
Solay continues, “During years of travel across the deserts of North Africa and the jungles of South East Asia, I was consistently struck by the importance of jewelry to those diverse cultures.
When I started designing, my first collections drew from those inspirations. No matter how excited I get about each new design I create, and the changes each reflects in my life and consciousness, I’m still drawn inexorably to those ethnic roots. To combine old pieces with new images. To honor the craftsmen who toil in cramped quarters working with primitive tools to create pieces that look just like the ones their great grandfather’s made. To feel the vestiges of an ancient culture that cling to these objects. To sometimes combine them with stones mined in far away regions and mix their aura with those of other cultures.”
One of the pieces featured in this collection is called TA'IZZ. http://www.denisesolaydesigns.com/pages/3270/N3052_-_TA'IZZ.htm Solay says “For hundreds of years, before they left the country in the late 40’s, the Jewish silversmiths of Yemen created pieces that were the envy of the world. Their decorated, hollow silver beads were admired and sought after by connoisseurs and collectors. Today, they are extremely difficult to find.
The center bead in this necklace (Named after the former capital city of Yemen) is one of those magnificent beads. I’ve surrounded it with beautiful, old, Mediterranean Coral beads from North Africa and intricate, open-basket, Sterling beads from Turkey. Even the clasp is unique - a two headed Balinese Sterling snake.
This is a necklace that a collector of fine objects will appreciate as well as someone who wants to stand out in a crowd. It’s timeless jewelry that a woman will collect and cherish and wear for years and proudly pass along in the future.”
Solay created the ETHNIX collection with "a hint of history" that works in today’s world. Pieces that a businesswoman can wear to the office or just out and around and not look like a recently returned tourist. It’s jewelry that conveys power, taste and assurance.
Solay is fond of saying “If you look like an ordinary woman, you’ll be treated like an ordinary woman.”
