UK's Cheekiest Number Plate Raises a Smile

The plate's passing resemblance to a certain word is quite obvious, but it is a genuine, officially issued registration. Although the government agency that assigns numbers makes a point of not issuing character combinations which may cause offence, it evidently has a sense of humour, and, commendably, is able to distinguish harmless fun from more sinister issues. The registration H8 GAY made headlines earlier this year when it was withdrawn after complaints that it could be seen as conveying a homophobic message ("hate gay").
