Televias de Huarochiri, a network utilizing CDMA450 technology was implemented by Peruvian operator Valtron Communications. Televias de Huarochiri is the first commercial network operating in Latin America with CDMA450 technology. It will provide fixed and mobile services to 127 towns of the Huarochiri Province, belonging to the Lima Department located within the Andes Mountains.
Carlos Killian, representing the IA450 was invited to this significant event. The inauguration of this network was not only important for the Huarochiri Province but also for Peru; because it is representative of how active participation from the rural communities can help to define the required services.
The inauguration ceremony was held in the District of Callahuanca, one of the most important Huarochiri towns, and it was very impressive and emotive due to the massive participation of the people and to the attendance of local and national authorities. Among them were Dr. Juan Pacheco, Vice Minister of Communications, and Ingeniero Edwin San Roman, OSIPTEL President. Ingeniero Ruddy Valdivia, President of Valtron received a strong applause in recognition for his tenacity and enthusiasm to implement this network.
Dr. Juan Pacheco stated: “Peru bet on the 450 MHz band as a powerful alternative in the battle for the digital bridge reduction. The Huarochiri network is an important example of this decision”. Ingeniero San Roman also stated: “This network is the start of a new step to provide Universal Service to the more remote Andean zones, utilizing high technology”. Ingeniero Ruddy Valdivia commented: “This is a pioneer project, not only for the advanced CDMA450 technology utilized, but also for the active participation of the rural community in its planning and the support of the National Government in adopting the legislation allowing the development of a small rural operator”.
The Transport and Communication Ministry has the mission to design and apply the policies and strategies to integrate Peru throughout the transportation and communication services.
