Airport Parking and Hotels (APH) has upgraded http://www.aph.com so that customers requesting options for airport parking are always presented with hotel and parking packages as well. The Department for Transport's THINK! driver tiredness campaign states that an estimated 300 people a year are killed in accidents where a driver has fallen asleep at the wheel. The THINK! campaign offers the following advice for drivers:

  •     Have a good night’s sleep before setting off on a long journey.
  •     Remember the risks if you have to get up unusually early to start a journey. Build in extra time to allow for breaks.
  •     Avoid making long trips between midnight and 6am when natural alertness is low.

Nick Caunter, managing director, APH said: “We believe in taking the stress out of travelling. Early flights mean very early check-ins and for many the best option may be to arrive the night before. This research shows that it is not only a matter of stress-reduction but sometimes a matter of life and death. APH has been offering hotel and parking packages for many years, but not everyone immediately thinks of this option when thinking about leaving their cars. This development means that everyone using http://www.aph.com and asking for parking with an early check-in time will be offered the Hotel option as a matter of course.” Often, the cost of hotel and parking is not hugely different from the cost of parking alone and it does take some of the travel pressure off of the start of a trip.”

Eight day’s parking at Heathrow Parking Express on-airport car park starts at £67.20. Overnight at the Thistle Hotel at Heathrow costs £76.70 including eight day’s parking in June. That’s less than £5 per person for an overnight hotel.
