Artwork for Education Takes Off at Mansfield Art Fair: Fundraising Program Showcases Student Work

Mansfield, MA (PRWEB) June 29, 2006 -- When Mansfield school's District Art Director Kerri Sankey first heard about the Artwork for Education™ program, she thought it would be a fine addition to the district’s annual art show in May. Little did she know just how popular the idea would be.

Artwork for Education is a fundraising program that features student artwork on custom greeting cards. The cards, which come in boxed sets of 12 of a single design, credit the student artist on the back of the card by first name, age and school. The program has won praise from parents and educators across the country for its ability to foster creativity and build self esteem while generating greatly needed funds.

“With consumers purchasing more than seven billion greeting cards each year, schools can tap into a viable source of funds to sustain their critical programs,” said Charles Paul, CEO of Worldwise Education, the company who began the Artwork for Education program two years ago.

Sankey couldn’t agree more. “We selected a representative sampling of art from our schools to sell as cards at the art show. I manned the table the first night, and the parents were crazy about the idea. We sold over 100 boxes in the first three hours, and subsequently an additional 250. It was a fantastic success, and we earned over $3500 for the district.”

Superintendent John Moretti is another ardent supporter of Artwork for Education. “Mansfield Public Schools are eager to publish the students’ works of art, and the fundraising component is an additional benefit. I applaud Mrs. Sankey for her vision,” he said.

Massachusetts Commissioner of Education David Driscoll also sees the program’s merits. “Promoting arts education and the artwork of students are terrific goals in and of themselves. Adding the ability of schools and districts to raise significant funds in these most difficult times is also most important,” he said.

Other area schools are also choosing Artwork for Education as their fundraiser, with most of the Wrentham district planning to participate this fall. The program also has also taken off in California, Florida, and New York and Kentucky.

“Artwork for Education is a win-win-win undertaking for students, schools and consumers,” said Paul. “I’m constantly amazed by how talented kids are. Wherever they are in the world, Worldwise Education wants to help students succeed in the classroom and beyond.”
