Vienna, VA (PRWEB) July 1, 2006 -- Seeking to develop INFOSEC leaders with security clearances to combat cyber crime, the University of Fairfax (UoF) announced today the Information Assurance White Paper Internship (IAWPI). The IAWPI is designed to produce information security and information assurance leaders holding security clearances. This internship program enables students to earn MS, PhD or graduate certificates in Information Security while producing classified IA white papers for federal customers.

Dr. Victor Berlin, President underscored the commitment of the UoF to address the rapidly growing shortage of information assurance/information security professionals holding DoD security clearances. “To produce leaders who can address national information security priorities the University has established the IAWPI program. Through its online degree programs, the UoF cultivates industry and government leaders capable of anticipating and defending against cyber attacks effectively,” explained Dr. Berlin. “Given the nation’s critical need for qualified personnel who can protect corporate and federal information systems and the field’s rapid expansion (forecast to grow by more than 2 million workers by 2008), the UoF information security focus is especially important.”

Under the University of Fairfax IAWPI program mid-career professionals will earn an online INFOSEC MS, PhD, or graduate certificate while they prepare IA white papers. These white papers focus on topics selected by DoD and federal customers who participate in the IAWPI program. Students who participate in this executive internship must be clearable and will be able to maintain and/or reactivate their security clearances for the duration of their participating in the IAWPI. Participants in this executive internship will be eligible to receive a Security Clearance Fellowship for their online INFOSEC MS, PhD or graduate certificate.
