Cocktail Trends: America Falls in Love with the Caipirinha All Over Again

Hailed by Flak Magazine in 2002 as one of the most over exposed drinks of the year, the Brazilian caipirinha took leave of the cocktail scene but is making a hot comeback, as American consumers fall in love with the cocktail yet again. New designer cachacas lead the wave of this re-emergence with flashy packaging and catchy names Leblon, Cachaca Cabana and Beleza Pura. These new-comers compete with the larger Brazilian brands such as Cachaca Pitu and Pirassununga-51, which are readily available in every almost every state in the union. This time around, however, a little-known brand of cachaca with a microscopic production volume and a very unusual name is breaking records and surprising aficionados everywhere; right now cocktail drinkers love caipirinhas, and they love Cachaca Fazenda Mae De Ouro.

(PRWEB) July 2, 2006 -- Hailed by Flak Magazine in 2002 as one of the most over exposed drinks of the year, the Brazilian caipirinha took leave of the cocktail scene but is making a hot comeback, as American consumers fall in love with the cocktail yet again.

About Cachaca Fazenda Mae De Ouro

Cachaca Fazenda Mae De Ouro is a traditional small batch, pot-distilled cachaca from the state of Minas Gerais in southeastern Brazil. Handcrafted by world renowned master distiller Nahor Gustavo, over nine gallons of fresh sugar cane juice go into making just one bottle of this exceptional cachaca. Entrepreneur David Catania sampled over eighty brands of cachaca before selecting Mae De Ouro as just the right one to introduce to the American market. “The choice was easy,” he explains, “I knew I had the right one when after my first taste I just couldn’t put it down.”

Cacahca Mae De Ouro Breaks Three Store Tasting Records

Americans who have tried it tend to agree with Mr. Catania. With an annual production of just 2,000 cases per year, the brand is not winning any awards for volume. Nevertheless, this past March the brand managed to break three store records for the most bottles of liquor ever sold at a New York City tasting:

March 4th, 2006 - LeNell's Ltd, 416 Van Brunt Street, Brooklyn - 20 bottles
March 11th, 2006 - Columbus Circle Liquor, 1780 Broadway, Manhattan - 22 bottles
March 25th, 2006 - UVA Wine, 218 Bedford Avenue, Brooklyn - 18 bottles

When asked why Mae De Ouro was selling so well at her store, LeNell Smothers responded with her own review of the product:

“It's exciting to find a cachaca that is actually sippable apart from making caipirinha cocktails. This is a bottle that can really shake up customers’ pre-conceived notions of this spirit category. Its’ sugar cane spirit base really shines through without tasting like something you'd fuel your truck with and without the price tag of rhum agricole. The fact that it has some whiskey barrel aging, of course, captures my heart."

Phill D'Ancona, General Manager of Columbus Circle Liquor, said simply “It’s the best damn cachaca I’ve ever tasted.” Well said Phill, well said.
