Fully Renovated Victorian Mansion on Buena Vista Park Features 22 Rooms; Zephyr Real Estate Agent Harry Clark is Representing Sellers

In a neighborhood known for multi-million-dollar properties, spectacular views and beautifully restored homes, one property across from Buena Vista Park stands out as a historic masterpiece of grand proportion. The completely renovated four-story Victorian mansion has 22 rooms.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) July 5, 2006 -- In a neighborhood known for multi-million-dollar properties, spectacular views and beautifully restored homes, one property across from Buena Vista Park stands out as a historic masterpiece of grand proportion. The completely renovated four-story Victorian mansion has 22 rooms.

Under the talented and experienced supervision of the current owners and occupants, whose skills in interior design and construction management were a perfect match for the scope of the required work, the property underwent extensive restoration during the past 5 years. While preserving the integrity of the original structure, four floors of living space were thoughtfully transformed to accommodate a multiplicity of functions in one residence. The restored structure provides intimate spaces for entertaining family and friends, with room to simultaneously host a fund-raising event, film screening, art opening or home business. Featuring five bedrooms, a state-of-the-art gourmet kitchen, a music room, art gallery, library, fitness room with sauna, and an observatory among other things, 21 Buena Vista is one of San Francisco’s historic gems.

Originally built in the 1880s for Dr. Seeley F. Long, the San Francisco physician and surgeon opened a sanitarium next door to this lovely Victorian Lady. At that time, the area across from Buena Vista Park was called “Hospital Hill” because of its proximity to many health-related services, including nearby St. Joseph’s Hospital, located at 355 Buena Vista East. Keeping pace with changes in the neighborhood, the St. Joseph’s Hospital was converted to the Park Hill Condominiums in the mid-eighties. To access the nearby medical facilities, bridges from the property connected it to adjacent buildings used as medical offices, according to historians.

Years later, the property functioned as a residential hotel, under a special use permit. The current owners, however, have legally changed the permitted use to establish two legal dwelling units, made extensive renovations and upgrades, and are now ready to part with this stunning home. Harry Clark, REALTOR® for Zephyr Real Estate, the largest independent real estate firm in San Francisco, is representing the owners in this process.

The current owners built an entirely new façade, based almost solely on a historical photo from 1890. Additional details were included to incorporate changes that were previously made to the front of the house when the main entrance was repositioned from the south to the west façade and two garages were added. The coffered ceiling entrance is one-of-a-kind and was custom made specifically for this house. All of the historic solid redwood paneled doors had many layers of paint removed before refinishing began. This effort alone took one person six months of full-time labor to complete.

On the first level of the home, a grand foyer boasting a picture-postcard view that looks out toward the bay welcomes guests. Features on this floor include the library with cherry-wood built-in bookcases, a music room and turret with gold-leafed ceiling, an art gallery with six custom designed stained glass windows, a grand formal dining room and deluxe modern gourmet kitchen built with capacity to hold four chefs.

The lower level includes a theater with a built-in 64 square foot retractable projection screen, a bistro/prep center, home gym and cedar sauna, 3,000-bottle wine cellar, courtyard and dual side-by-side garages.

A luxurious master suite is the focal point of the second floor. It features a wood-burning fireplace, sweeping views and elaborate dressing room with cedar-lined drawers. The master bathroom is more like a spa with a Turkish steam bath, a separate rain shower, double corner bathtub, detached water closet and fine details, such as heated bamboo flooring and soapstone countertops. A study with private exterior deck overlooking the courtyard and a modern laundry room are also located on the second floor.

On the third floor landing, a Victorian window wall offers panoramic views of the entire city. The crowning jewel of this property is the stunning view from atop the observatory. This floor includes a wet bar, as well as four bedrooms, two bathrooms and the northwest facing lounge with 270 degree city views. The bedroom located in the southwest corner of the home overlooking the park, includes a 22ft ceiling open to the top of the landmark tower.

All 22 rooms of this house, with the fine craftsmanship, intricate details and unsurpassed views from the top floors, are available for interested buyers to visit. For more information, contact Clark at 415.252.5205 or visit www.harryclarkproperties.com.
