When his son, Officer Jason Rehling, was badly injured during a domestic disturbance call, Dan took the initiative to start an organization designed to help injured officers and their families. Mr. Rehling has been on the Dr. Phil show to talk about his son and the plight of other officers and their families who need help after such incidents. The showed aired April 14, 2005 and Dr. Phil contributed counseling to Deputy Rehling and his wife, and also had Capital One donate $50,000 to the family. After the show aired, the ONA Fund received $11,000 in donations from concerned citizens and officers across the country.
“When the ONA Fund was started it was due to my son being severely wounded in the line of duty as a Deputy Sheriff. I soon discovered that there was a real need for assistance for other disabled law enforcement officers,” Mr. Rehling tells Affinity4. “We have narrowed our mission to concentrate on the disabled in the line of duty officer for now as funds are very tight. The partnering with Affinity4 will in time provide the resources to provide the funds to give real help to the officers that find themselves living in poverty due to their disabling injuries.”
