Recently named as the top personal trainer in the United States for 2005 by the International Sports Sciences Association, Brian Theiss is nationally recognized for designing one of the most successful medically proven fitness training systems. His facility, the Theiss Institute, is on the forefront of scientific health and fitness development in the nation today.

Brian Theiss, owner and operator of one of the most successful training facilities in the country, just may be the ultimate personal trainer. After considering a pool of nearly 80,000 trainers, the International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA) recently recognized Theiss, founder of the Theiss Institute in Westlake Village, California, as the top personal trainer in the United States for 2005.

It’s no secret that obesity among adults in the United States has risen at a disconcerting rate over the last couple decades. As indicated by the most recent data from the National Center for Health Statistics, over 60 percent of adults in the U.S. 20 years of age and older are overweight or obese, with half of those adults – over 60 million people -- being obese.

Even though one of the national health objectives for the year 2010 is to reduce the prevalence of obesity among adults to less than 15%, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), current data indicate that the situation is continuing to worsen. The obesity epidemic has progressed to such a point that the CDC has implemented a state-based Nutrition and Physical Activity Program to Prevent Obesity and Other Chronic Diseases. In 2005-2006, 28 states are being funded in their efforts to develop and implement science-based nutrition and physical activity interventions. In addition to governmental efforts to intercede in the escalation of obesity, the nation has a pressing need for the knowledge and expertise of its most highly qualified personal trainers.

With a strong mission of combating poor health and the issues that arise from it, the Theiss Institute was also recently awarded for being the best working model in the health and fitness industry, for the fifth year in a row. Theiss, who was also named best trainer in the nation for 2004 by ISSA, is nationally recognized for the incredible success of his trademark system of health and fitness training using scientific principles of kinesiology, physiology and metabolic functioning – a system that couldn’t have been developed at a better time.

Not only does Brian Theiss have 24 years of experience in designing health and fitness programs, but he has been spending those years perfecting the Theiss Success Fitness Training System™. “Based on health, aging and immunity for men and women, the Theiss Institute has developed a results-based training system that increases your basic metabolic rate and energy output and manipulates energy systems and muscle fibers,” says Patrick Gamboa, BS, Director of Technical & Educational Support for ISSA. “By establishing a base for measuring progress through exercise and nutrition, the Theiss Institute has created straightforward systems with which medical professionals can measure the effectiveness of a well-monitored personal training session.” Resulting in the creation and cultivation of a much needed spirit of reciprocity between the personal training industry and the medical community, some would consider this achievement alone enough to catapult Brian Theiss into the ranks of the top fitness professionals in this nation.

“The International Sports Sciences Association awarded Brian Theiss the Best Working Business Model because his facility and his programs get the best results in the shortest amount of time and have been scientifically and medically proven,” says Dr. Sal Arria, DC, MSS, Co-Founder and CEO of ISSA. “He works with physicians every single day in a way other trainers only dream of.”

As Theiss himself asserts, however, “Dreams become reality for those who are focused.” His own focus pushed him to continue to pursue a career in health and fitness even after sustaining a disabling back injury that left him bedridden for months on end and undergoing a 7-year rehabilitation process that included extensive lumbar fusion surgery. In obtaining certification through the International Sports Sciences Association, he took the first step in pushing forward and was provided with the educational, business and practical foundation that he needed to launch the career of his dreams. Today, he owns and operates a facility that is on the forefront of scientific health and fitness development and has provided fitness consulting to such high-profile organizations as the Los Angeles King, Cincinnati Reds, UCLA Medical Center, Los Robles Medical Center, Starkey Labs, Guitar Center, and Honda Motor Company just to name a few. Not only does Theiss make over nine hundred thousand dollars a year consulting as a personal trainer, but he generates about three million dollars a year through his business.

How did Theiss get to where he is? As Dr. Fredrick Hatfield, MSS, PhD, Co-founder and President of ISSA says, “How does one get to be number one in any field? Quite simply, Brian Theiss is the Michael Jordan of personal training.”
