Life Alert General Manager Mark Turenshine Shines Again with Third Hall of Fame Induction, Alongside “Seinfeld” Co-Creator Larry David

Mark Turenshine, former star of pro and Olympic basketball, was recently inducted into the Sheepshead Bay High School Hall of Fame at a gala New York event. Eight other alumni were also inducted, including Larry David, co-creator of the Emmy Award winning TV show “Seinfeld”. Turenshine, currently General Manager at Life Alert (a leading personal emergency response company), has now achieved triple Hall of Fame honors - for high school, college and professional athletic excellence.

Encino, CA (PRWEB) July 5, 2006 -- Life Alert, one of the nation’s leaders in Personal Emergency Response Services (PERS), employs people of many backgrounds on its multitalented staff, as witnessed by a recent honor given to the company’s General Manager, Mark Turenshine. Last month, Turenshine was honored for his basketball achievements, inducted into the Sheepshead Bay High School Hall of Fame in New York along with other talented alumni. The stellar group of nine inductees also included Larry David (Class of 1965, co-creator of the Emmy Award winning sitcom “Seinfeld” and star of the HBO series “Curb Your Enthusiasm”).

The Sheepshead Bay honor capped a “triple crown” of sorts for Turenshine, who was also voted into his college Hall of Fame in 2000 (St. Francis College) and the Israeli equivalent of the NBA Hall of Fame in 2002 (voted one of the Top 50 of all time to play Israeli pro basketball). Mark played in the NBA as well, alongside legends Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Cunningham on the 1967-68 Philadelphia 76ers squad. In 1966-67, Turenshine was voted Amateur Athlete of the Year for New York City basketball – an honor bestowed by the Downtown Athletic Club, the same group that awards the Heisman Trophy each year.

But the longest period in Turenshine’s career was spent playing basketball in Israel. From 1968 to 1979, he played for the professional Israeli basketball team Hapoel Tel Aviv, and from 1968 to 1976 he was a member of Israel’s National Basketball Team, which played twice in the Olympics (Munich 1972 and Montreal 1976) and won a silver medal in the 1970 Asian Olympics.

In short, Mark Turenshine’s athletic career was a long and illustrious one. And yet, after all his college and pro experiences - and honors - he said he was especially thrilled to cap his career by receiving such an important accolade from the place where he got his start (Sheepshead Bay High School Class of 1962).

After his career in sports, Turenshine became a successful businessman. He was hired by Life Alert, one of the nation’s leading PERS companies, and has worked there for over twenty years. In fact, several members of Life Alert’s staff have, like Turenshine, been with the company since its inception, because they believe passionately in Life Alert’s mission: to save lives, and provide greater peace of mind and independence for its subscribers across America.

About Life Alert:
Founded in 1987, Life Alert is (on average) saving a life approximately every 45 minutes, using a unique technology to provide its members with state-of-the-art home monitoring and protection. This service, endorsed by former Surgeon General Dr. C. Everett Koop, gives seniors the peace of mind to keep living longer in their own homes. In fact, the average Life Alert member enjoys independent home living for an extra six years – and according to ACNielsen Research, 87% of members said the protection provided by Life Alert is a “main or important factor” in their decision to keep living at home, rather than going to a nursing home. Across the nation, seniors living alone rely on Life Alert’s 24/7 response system to ensure their protection against medical, theft, fire or other emergencies.
