Women’s health researchers recently established that symptoms of premenstrual syndrome are a response to stress for some women. Their complex roles can feel overwhelming, and coping difficulties may manifest as severe PMS symptoms. Researchers recommend that women take self-care time, away from responsibilities, but there may be another way to eliminate the body and mind’s response to stress.
EFT is a do-it-yourself acupressure technique that women have been using for more than a decade to gain relief from the physical and emotional symptoms associated with PMS. It involves fingertip tapping on select acupressure points while focusing on the symptom in question. EFT can be learned freely by downloading the EFT Manual at http://www.emofree.com/downloadeftmanual.asp?ref=prw-pmscw
Dr. Jane Ussher, Professor of Women's Health Psychology at the University of Western Sydney, explains, “Women feel that they are expected to cope with the gamut of responsibilities - including their job, partner, children, extended family, housework etc - without complaint." They self-diagnose as having PMS but they are more likely to be having a stress response to their excessive responsibilities.
Dr. Ussher says, “Premenstrually, when many women feel more vulnerable, and their repressed frustration or anger comes to the fore, their self-control is ruptured, and they can lash out.” Her recommendation is that women take time away from their responsibilities with a focus on self-care.
Gary Craig, the Stanford-trained engineer who developed EFT agrees with Dr. Ussher’s assessment of PMS symptoms but points out that women who feel overwhelmed by their responsibilities are unlikely to make an easy transition to taking time for themselves. “In my experience of doing EFT with thousands of women,” says Craig, “if they are struggling to balance their many responsibilities, they may tend to feel guilty, weak, self-indulgent, or undeserving of taking time for themselves. EFT helps combat these feelings of negative self-worth, enabling women to take relaxing, guilt-free breaks.
“My EFT Practitioners and I have witnessed thousands of examples where women resolve negative emotions or traumas and find their physical symptoms of PMS have subsided or disappeared,” says Craig. “They are clearing stress, anger, guilt and negative self worth at the level of their energy meridian system (Chi or Qi) which is a much more thorough clearing than any conventional relaxation method offers. Once the meridian system is clear, healthy flow is restored and physical and emotional PMS pain stops being an automatic stress response.”
EFT Practitioner, Wes Gietz worked with a young woman who had terrible PMS cramping which frequently caught her unawares, taking her from discomfort to helplessness in minutes. When faced with the pain, she said she felt anger, fear, sadness and shame. While doing EFT, she identified a traumatic incident when she was five years old.
One session of EFT resolved the emotions associated with the trauma. When Gietz met the women six weeks later, she said she was cured and that she had been surprised by her cycle – there were no symptoms to announce its arrival.
“Conventional medical research is inadvertently confirming what we have known in EFT practice for more than a decade,” says Craig. “Stress and unresolved negative emotions contribute to illness and disease. These emotions may link to a childhood trauma, or to daily stresses associated with work, relationships, and family challenges. Whatever the reason for the distressing emotions, EFT claims an 80% success rate in calming stress associated with PMS as well as serious diseases and illnesses.”
Although most Americans have yet to hear of it, EFT may be the world’s fastest-growing self-help technique because people are getting results where nothing else has worked for them. Over 300,000 have downloaded Craig’s free training manual and another 10,000 download it each month. The official EFT Manual has been translated by volunteer practitioners into nine languages.
The EFT Manual explains the basics so that anyone can begin applying EFT right away. It can be freely downloaded at
