Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) July 7, 2006
The Smirnoff Movement Studio continues to move and groove across the country making its next stop in Atlanta, GA. The maker of Smirnoff vodka has transformed the Disturbing Tha Peace Records Complex into an interactive community arts space offering free courses in music, art, and dance as well as rehearsal space for patrons 21 years of age and older.
On Thursday June 22, 2006, the Smirnoff Movement Studio opened its doors to aspiring artists and community members ages 21 and older for classes. Over 300 guests attended the launch including DTP’s own Bobby Valentino and Field Mob, as well as Slim from R&B group 112. Throughout the duration of the 30-day program, members of Disturbing Tha Peace Records - Chaka Zulu, Portia Kirkland, and Bobby Valentino as well as other notable artists - Mannie Fresh, DJ Mars, DJ Sense, DJ Infamous, and choreographer Jerri Benjamin will teach classes covering everything from hip-hop dance and urban art, to mixing music, to how to break into the entertainment industry. In addition to the regular class schedule, weekly Thursday night events will follow throughout the month to give local artists the chance to network with program instructors and industry experts.
A special finale event that will take place on Thursday, July 13th will include a silent auction and special plaque presentation to Disturbing Tha Peace and The Sickle Cell Foundation of Georgia. Dedicated to providing education, screening, and counseling programs for sickle cell and other abnormal hemoglobin, The Sickle Cell Foundation of Georgia will be the recipient of all bartender tips collected during the weekly networking events as well as all proceeds raised during the silent auction. This special finale event will also feature the unveiling of a permanent mural created by local Atlanta artist, “W,” which communicates his artistic interpretation of the importance of drinking responsibly.
The Atlanta launch of the Smirnoff Movement Studio follows a successful debut in Brooklyn, NY where over 1800 people registered and participated in courses led by some of the industry’s hottest artists – including musician ?uestlove (pronounced Questlove) of The Roots, artist/curator Fuse Green and dancer/choreographer Kamaya Jones.
“We are excited about giving back to the community through music, art, and dance,” said Portia Kirkland, Director of Strategic Marketing and Planning for Disturbing Tha Peace Records. “We have been quite successful this year and feel honored to be a part of a project that will allow others to gain more knowledge about the music business and we believe that DTP is a great place to make it happen!”
To date more than 20 instructors have agreed to provide course instruction and over 500 aspiring artists have registered for classes via http://www.smirnoffstudio.com.
