"Bleeding Through Kingdoms: Cinderella’s Rebellion," the debut novel by 26-year-old indie writer Riley LaShea, will heave you out of the real world and into the realm of fairy tales in less than two pages, and hold you spell-bound there until the final battle in the Gulf of Broken Dreams. The novel draws upon the original darker versions of the fairytales as a basis for the story. Tired of seeing weak “heroines” in the so-called ‘happily ever after,’ Riley LaShea borrowed some favorite characters, added a few of her own, and crafted a modern take on tradition, a genuine fairy tale about courage, friendship, freedom, and self-worth, with healthy doses of humor, mayhem, and, of course, magic. With deliciously wicked twists and ultimate girl power, revolution has never been this enticing.

In her escape from the persistent Prince Charming, Cinderella has altered her story and upset the balance of the Black Forest and its other fairytale inhabitants. The next thing she knows she is crossing into kingdoms she was never meant to discover, and encountering individuals whose existence she was never supposed to know about, including Rapunzel, Hansel & Gretel, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack (with beanstalk) and Snow White and the dwarves: Big Papa, Chauncy, Mo, Sponk, Tater, Esteban, and Baby G. At first it all seems a fantastic adventure, but it doesn’t take long to realize that Cinderella’s joyful abandon is not sitting well with everyone.

Snow White’s stepmother, the beautiful but cruel Queen Ino, now wants all three of the girls dead, but she is only a servant to the master plan. Something deeper, darker, and much more powerful is working beneath the surface, toiling to put everything back the way it was intended. As the inhabitants of the Black Forest begin to mysteriously disappear, it will take all of the inhabitants of the Black Forest, both decent and depraved, to seize control of their land and their destinies.
