Youth Bagpipe Band from Pittsburgh Heads to the World Championships in Scotland

The Steel Thistle Pipes and Drums, from Pittsburgh, is the only U.S. Novice Juvenile pipe band in the 2006 World Championships.

Steel Thistle Pipes and Drums, a juvenile bagpipe band from Pittsburgh, is preparing for the competition of a lifetime.

Under the direction of Patrick Regan, the first graduate of the Carnegie Mellon University Bagpipe degree program, this group of 24 young adults ages 11-18 will be traveling to Scotland to compete in various piping competitions. This exciting opportunity will include the European Pipe Band Championships and the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow on August 12.

With over 230 bands competing from all around the World, Steel Thistle will be the only U.S. Novice Juvenile pipe band in the 2006 World Championships. This group of talented young musicians will perform a benefit concert on Saturday, July 22nd at 7:30 PM in the Carnegie Mellon University Alumni Concert Hall in the College Fine Arts building. Tickets available at the door for a suggested donation of $10 and $5 for children. Tax-deductible contributions can be made to "Steel Thistle Youth Pipe Band," 427 Teece Ave., Pgh., PA 15202.
