Myrtle Beach Community Comes Together to Support Our Troops

A local group of veterans, business people, concerned citizens, and elected officials of Horry County formed a local organization called "Mission Operation Helmet Adjunct" to help Operation Helmet purchase helmet upgrade kits to send to our troops.

(PRWEB) July 9, 2006 -- Operation Helmet and its Myrtle Beach chapter is hosting a fundraising event in Myrtle Beach on July 10,2006, to raise money to purchase helmet upgrade kits for our US Marines and US Air Force personnel in combat zones. These kits increase the comfort, stability, and most importantly, the protection offered by the standard combat helmet.

A local group of veterans, business people, concerned citizens, and elected officials of Horry County formed a local organization called "Mission Operation Helmet Adjunct" to assist Dr. Bob Meaders' charity, Operation Helmet. The fundraising event will be held on Monday July 10, 2006 at Sugami North Japanese Steak House located at 9711 North Kings Highway, Myrtle Beach from 5 PM until the wee hours.

The Co-Chairpersons are Laura Best and John Easterling. Tickets for the fundraiser are $20.00 per person, and will include hot dogs, hamburgers with all the dressings, salads and soft drinks. All the proceeds will go to purchasing helmet liners for our troops.

Doc Bob started Operation Helmet when his grandson asked him to check out the effectiveness of a helmet upgrade kit. Doc Bob sent a $100 kit to Justin plus a dozen more for members of his rifle team. They loved them but told Doc Bob that they couldn't use them unless to whole company of 100 had them. Thus started Operation Helmet. To date, over 13,500 kits have been shipped to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Tickets can be purchased at the Restaurant or by calling Karyn Barber at (843) 839-6902; Laura Best at (843) 907-4560 or John Easterling at (843)458-4110.
