WisdomNet, an international provider of operations, strategy, and human capital solutions, today released a comprehensive review of one of today’s biggest corporate threats -- supply chain disruption.

Authored by WisdomNet Operations Practice Leader, John Murphy, "Managing Supply Chain Risk: Building in Resilience and Preparing for Disruption" is a definitive look at dangers lurking in the modern supply chain and steps that can be taken to minimize long-term damage of disruptions. A complete copy can be downloaded at http://wisdomnet.net.

Increased globalization of supply and consumer markets, along with the trend toward outsourcing have contributed to more complex and inherently risky supply chains, notes the paper, citing reports of 33-40% losses in average stock returns of companies experiencing significant supply chain disruptions.

Additionally, political instability, global commerce and recent natural and man made disasters such as SARS, the Tsunami in Southeast Asia and Hurricane Katrina, bring home the reality that supply chain resiliency and crisis planning are critical to today’s successful companies.

"Given the long-term damage to a company’s market position and reputation that can result from any failure,” notes Murphy, “supply chain risk management should be an issue of concern to all top executives.”

The paper was announced at New York’s Metropolitan Club in a joint presentation with Yamaha Corporation of America and Dell. In his remarks, Murphy outlined five steps to limiting supply chain disruption, including:

1.    Supply Chain Design

2.    Enhancement of Supply Chain capability through the use of Business Process Management (BPM)

3.    Visibility throughout the supply chain

4.    Supplier Relationship Management

5.    Corporate Culture

The report goes on to define opportunities to build resiliency into the supply chain, keys to disruption identification and outlines how to prepare and execute business continuity plans -- critical in today’s turbulent times.
