In a comment printed on 21st May 2006 in the Financial Mail on Sunday, the publisher stated, “We would like to make clear that Pacific Continental Securities (UK) Limited is not guilty of such misconduct and no such allegation was intended. We apologise for the error and have agreed to make a donation to charity and pay legal costs.”

Pacific Continental Securities insisted that damages should be met through a donation to charity, nominating that the funds be directly passed through to the victims of the 7th July bomb attacks fund in London.
