Chalk Institute Celebrates with BookSwap and Networking in Sunnyvale

Chalk Institute repeats its free book swap and networking event Thursday, July 20, 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm in Sunnyvale California to celebrate the upcoming launch of the Chalk Institute’s summer and fall workshops and the book Happy About Working After 60.

Palo Alto, CA (PRWEB) July 13, 2006 -- Silicon Valley residents are invited to help Chalk Institute celebrate the launch of its Career, Business, and Technology workshops and its second PreviewMBA certificate program. The event also celebrates the new book 'Happy About Working After 60' by Chalk Institute Chancellor Jacky Hood.

“The first book swap and networking gathering was a big success,” says Hood, “and I expect this one to be even better. Participants can bring their business cards and a book to swap. There will also be an off-line sale of hardbacks for $2 each and paperbacks for $1 each. Book sale proceeds will be donated to the History of Computing in Education project.”

The Institute’s upcoming PreviewMBA certificate uses as its textbook the Darden School’s Portable MBA. The program targets executives, managers, supervisors, and business professionals seeking a summary overview of the knowledge that an MBA provides. The PreviewMBA is a 12-week workshop facilitated by Darden MBA Marie Highby. The University of Virginia's Darden School has won awards from Business Week and Financial Times and is also an Economic Intelligence Award winner. In addition to gaining a broad business education, PreviewMBA participants will also form a local career-long network with past, current, and future graduates.

Highby also teaches the Powerful Writing workshop scheduled for July 25 and repeated on September 12. The Silicon Valley Higher Education Roundtable identified poor writing skills as the number one difficulty of graduates of its member universities and colleges. The Business Roundtable’s survey of 8 million employees found a similar need.

Other Summer Chalk workshops include Outsourcing and SAS70 Vendor Management August 1, Providing Support and Service on the Internet August 8, and Sarbanes-Oxley and HIPAA Compliance August 15.

Chalk Institute is an organization of professional instructors providing classroom workshops and web-based instruction. It will soon create online certification tests for corporate and IT governance, service and support, business writing, and other areas. Additionally, Chalk Institute plans to act as a publishing company for online tests and will develop and sell software to build online tests.
